The 33 Project

Good morning readers. We’re heading out of the city shortly for Danny and Annik’s wedding!! Rhode Island here we come. Woohoo.

Let’s jump into the recs for this week.

1/ In Denmark, Susannah and I went to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. 35km from Copenhagen, the beautiful grounds house many collections and exhibits including wonderful photography by Pia Arke, bizarre installations by Mika Rottenberg and an incredibly silly Jonathan Meese section. One room we loved, was the Yayoi Kusama installation.

Kusama’s work is understandably beloved. This week I dug a little deeper into her life and watched this mini-profile from the Tate. Toward the end, the discussion of Kusama “managing madness” and harnessing her expression to productive ends was really striking.

2/ This is a great 4-part series on grief. It’s really hard to intentionally do something, especially something that is layered in pain and heaviness and is just so damn sad. Sometimes I think there is only so much that can be said about loneliness, about sadness, but then I read something like this series and realize these things exist in the abstract. That there’s more to them than singular experience and that they evolve constantly, and unfold deeper and deeper. I felt connected to this writing in a way that I’m not personally living through right now, but I have lived through and I know I will live through again. It’s a beautiful thing.

3/ Finally The Economist has released a new “climate podcast” that’s pretty solid. It’s called To a Lesser Degree and it’s all about tackling climate change. So far, it’s pretty interesting.
