The 33 Project
Hello hello. What a dismal week in foreign affairs. I’ve been streaming Monocle’s The Globalist podcast for updates on the war in Ukraine and it’s devastating. Great resource if you’re seeking a more global take on what’s happening.
On to this week’s recommendations…
1/ If you, like me, had little to no understanding of the vast wealth of Russian oligarchs, this breakdown of the sanctions, seizures, and superyachts was extremely helpful. So many superyachts!
2/ This was such an excellent read from Ian Bogost. The piece on its surface is about the therapeutic experience of hugging cows. But, it also dives deeper into physical reality versus the internet, about developing internet and facebook games, and, I think, is really a commentary on the state of our social interactions.
I never “played” Cow Clicker, but it is pretty interesting we’re still having these same conversations decades later. Also, it’s refreshing to read a humorous programmer. Great puns.
3/ Finally, I look forward to watching Nan Goldin’s first short film. This piece from Brooklyn Magazine outlines her work and this new chapter.
I guess if I were to expect a short film from Nan Goldin it would be “a 16-minute, impressionistic film that comments on the experience of addiction.” Definitely…
